Research is transforming our understanding of the immune system, delivering new treatments. But ultra-rare AA patients are missing out. Many hospitals lack a single leaflet to help patients understand the condition and current treatment options. Exciting research into new treatments struggles to find funding, as progress falls behind the speed of improvements for cancer. And when research is done: new medicines are harder to prescribe in some areas of the UK, creating a postcode lottery.
We have a plan to make sure every UK patient can benefit from treatment advances and clinical trials: Hospital outreach will put clinical information in underserved UK areas, connecting patients there with expert information and peer support. We’ll work with clinical teams to appeal funding decisions that deny patients access to new treatment, and campaign for universal access We’ll promote AA as an area of research and connect scientists – to fund the next leap forward in treatment
