Girls face systemic barriers, low representation, and the historical erasure of female achievement in STEM and music. Today, women comprise just 25% of the UK’s STEM workforce, and compose just 7.5% of classical repertoire globally. Meanwhile, cuts to arts education in schools disproportionately impacts young women in deprived areas. Without visible role models or creative outlets, girls are excluded from vital means of expressing themselves, exploring their potential, and shaping their futures.

Building on a track record of projects bridging music and science through the lives and work of women composers, we'll deliver immersive music and science workshops through schools and music hubs, and create a suite of supporting resources. Professional women scientists and musicians will mentor participants to translate scientific breakthroughs into original vocal music, building confidence, amplifying girls’ voices, and providing inspiring, visible role models.
