Despite being illegal, child labour remains widespread in Bangladesh, driven by family poverty, limited employment opportunities, and climate-related shocks. Girls engaged in domestic labour are among the most vulnerable, facing risks of exploitation, isolation, and exclusion from education. Many children who leave child labour struggle to continue their education due to learning gaps and financial pressures on families. Without sustained support, they remain at risk of returning to unsafe work.

100 CDWs (girls) develop basic education and life skills through UKBET’s Doorstep Learning Programme (DLP) for one year 30 CDWs supported to leave child labour and join school or vocational training. 100 former CDWs now attending school receive additional learning and homework support plus help with school fees, uniforms and learning materials. 40 families receive small business microgrants (e.g. for tea stalls, tailoring, food vending) to stop financial dependence on child labour.
