More than one third of babies, children and young people across the North East are growing up in poverty. This December, we return with Music Against Child Poverty 3 using the power of music to raise awareness and vital funds for children living in hardship.

Child poverty in the North East remains the highest of any UK region. 35% of children in Sunderland live below the poverty line, with rates exceeding 40% in some wards. Families are struggling to afford essentials such as safe sleeping equipment, warm clothing, nappies and hygiene items. Poverty affects a child’s health, development, education and long-term life chances. Too many children in our city are going to bed cold, waking up hungry, or lacking the basic items every child deserves.
Working with our long-standing partner Love, Amelia, we will enable them to deliver practical support to families in crisis. Through this campaign we will: Provide essentials such as cots, clothing, baby items, and toys to over 2,000 families; Raise public awareness of the scale and impact of child poverty; Engage schools and young performers in campaign-linked performances; Use music to unite communities and inspire collective action; Mobilise local musicians and venues to encourage giving.
