Imagine being heavily pregnant, needing ante-natal care with the nearest health facility hours away on foot. No car. No ambulance. For women across rural East Africa, that's reality. CHASE Africa's local partners are closing that distance, bringing healthcare within reach.

In the UK, a pregnant woman would have midwife appointments, scans and a birth plan. For her peer in rural East Africa, the nearest health facility may be hours away. Distance and lack of health services can cost women their lives in childbirth, forces girls out of school, and drives unsafe abortions. In Kenya's Narok, 28% of girls aged 15–19 are pregnant, almost double the national average. In Tanzania, 46% of pregnancies are unintended. Poverty and stigma compound every barrier.
Where a health facility is hours away on foot, we bring care to people. Our Backpack Nurses and mobile outreach clinics travel into the most remote communities, providing contraception, ante-natal care and maternal and child health services. Community Health Workers visit women and girls in their homes. We strengthen health facilities and address stigma, harmful norms and gender inequality, so every woman can access the healthcare she needs.
