We are raising funds for a new school bus for St Joseph’s school in Nallajeerla, (AP, India). The school offers subsidised education for many children, but it can’t cover transport fees. The new bus will enable an extra 120 impoverished children to attend school for the first time in their lives.

In many rural villages children miss out on school because the families, living in poverty, cannot afford tuition and transport fees. The parents work hard to save money from their smallholdings, but frequent climate-related challenges make this hard. Many struggle even to pay for food, rent and clothes, and there is no spare money for education. A school bus will solve the problem of transport costs for getting their children to a school that offers heavily subsidised tuition fees.
Through purchasing the bus, village children can be transported to school at no cost to the family. The school in question is associated with this charity and offers free or heavily subsidised education. By covering transport costs, the children, who qualify for the free places, will be able to take them up and gain an education for the first time. The added values are many through the additional benefits to the families and communities of having children from their midst attending school.
