Each year, around 150 children in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer. When a child receives a diagnosis, lives are turned upside down instantly, not just for the child but for parents, grandparents, siblings, and the wider family. Getting well again can be a long and challenging journey, emotionally, physically, and financially. Candlelighters was formed 50 years ago by parents and medical staff who saw that families needed support beyond medical treatment.

Candlelighters supports families from diagnosis and for as long as we're needed; on the ward, at home, or in the community. Our support workers provide day-to-day support in hospital. At The Square (our family support centre) families can access wellbeing sessions, talking therapy, and peer support groups. We offer financial grants and accommodation close to the hospital, as well as holidays and special experiences to bring joy and fun, wherever possible.
