The North East has one of the highest reoffending rates nationally, which leads to financial and social costs. People leaving prison often have limited support, unstable housing, poor mental health, strained family relationships, low confidence, barriers to work, training and community. Without timely, trusted help at release, people can become isolated, fall back into crisis and face greater risk of reoffending, causing further harm to families and communities.
In the North East, Junction 42 provides individualised resettlement support during and after the release period. This mentoring provides practical help on release, signposting, advocacy, links to education and employment opportunities, and connections with local communities. Our approach is relational, strengths-based and trauma-informed, helping each person take realistic next steps towards stability and independence. This support reduces recall and reoffending.
