The prevalence of mental health problems has increased significantly in recent years with 1 in 4 people likely to experience a mental health problem of some kind each year. This causes acute pressure on the NHS mental health services which results in many unable to access the support they need. Some can afford private counselling but this leaves a significant number unable to access support they need. This absence of support is frequently provided by charitable providers such as Cogwheel
Cogwheel addresses the problem of the lack of mental health support that many experience by providing an affordable counselling service offering a course of upto 20 sessions. With 40 people referring themselves each month for support, sufficient session capacity needs to be retained so that waiting lists are minimised and the wellbeing of new clients does not deteriorate. In recent years the number of volunteer/trainee counsellors had reduced and to maintain the service paid counsellors are needed
