Many young people face food insecurity, which harms their health, learning, and wellbeing. In deprived areas, hunger limits their ability to engage, concentrate, and access opportunities, creating long-term negative impacts on their futures. Many of Shaftesbury's young people are from low income households or single parent families - Birkenhead , officially, has a higher than average percentage of children & young people living in poverty.(source: Wirral Intelligence Report)

We provide a free, nutritious meal at every youth session. Meeting this basic need improves wellbeing, engagement, and learning. It also helps us build trusted relationships and connect young people to wider support and opportunities.. Shaftesbury partners with local large Retailers: Asda, Co-op & Tesco's - all who continue to provide food & donation support for our local community. Shaftesbury's social supermarket is open daily & staffed by local residents- all welcome.
