Our highly scientific, multicultural society requires navigation of many complex, interdisciplinary questions. 32% of UK scientists believe in God/a higher power, and most religious people find their beliefs compatible with science. But 57% of adults and 45% of young people think science and religion are necessarily at odds (Ecklund, 2012; Theos, 2022; Billingsley, 2020). This mismatch of reality and public opinion is amplified by the education system, and leads to needless division in society.
The Faraday Institute for Science and Religion is a Cambridge-based research institute. Our main focus is on the relationship between science and the Christian faith, but we also engage with those of any faith or none. Our mission is academically rigorous research; research dissemination, education and training for any with an interest in science and faith; outreach to schools, colleges, the scientific community, religious institutions and the general public.
