This funding will support our subsidised mental health counselling programme for people in Herefordshire who cannot otherwise access timely support. We offer multiple sessions to ensure continuity of care and help people before a crisis develops, reducing distress in the community.

Mental health support is becoming increasingly unaffordable for people in Herefordshire, while long waiting lists elsewhere often leave people struggling alone until a crisis. National reports show that cost and lengthy waits are major barriers to care; and as living costs rise, demand for our subsidised counselling has grown significantly. With our National Lottery funding ending in May 2027, new funding is vital to sustain and strengthen this low-cost service for those who need it the most.

Marches Counselling Service provides subsidised counselling for people who cannot afford private therapy and long delays. National evidence shows people can wait over 18 months for mental health treatment, far longer than for physical health care, with many reporting that their condition deteriorating during this wait. We offer a faster, local alternative with a subsidised assessment and three-session counselling block, helping people access support before their distress escalates into crisis.
