We aim to reduce the number of child labourers in Nepal’s second largest city. Rescuing and reuniting younger ones with their families and helping those over 14 to improve their working conditions and to access relevant education opportunities, while improving employment practices across the city.

Poverty, migration and a lack of educational opportunities are driving increasing numbers of vulnerable children and young people into exploitative labour in Nepal's rapidly growing cities. Living away from family support, these children are highly vulnerable to abuse, trafficking, and exploitation. The situation is becoming more acute as rising living costs, housing insecurity and reduced remittances from family members working overseas place additional pressure on already vulnerable households

Building on 20 years of experience supporting children in crisis in Nepal’s growing cities, through workplace outreach we identify those trapped in exploitative labour, withdrawing and reintegrating any under 14 with their families and into school. For older adolescents we provide tailored literacy, numeracy and life-skills education and work with employers and trade associations to improve workplace safety, safeguarding and compliance with child labour laws, creating lasting sector-wide change.
