At least 7% of children and young people have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) — an average of at least two in every classroom. They may struggle to understand others or express themselves, affecting learning, friendships and confidence. Without the right support, they risk falling behind at school, becoming isolated and facing poorer life chances. They are at risk of social isolation and economic exclusion.
Afasic helps parents better understand, support and advocate for children with SLCN. Through our national helpline, website resources, social media, publications and online training, families can access trusted, practical guidance and support. We also organise specialist transition courses, both in person and online, to help children with persistent SLCN move confidently from primary to secondary school.
