Ballet shoes play a critical role supporting dancers through rehearsal and performance. The company uses over 6,000 pairs of pointe shoes each Season, costing £50 per pair, spending over £300,000. Dancers can need flat shoes, ballet boots, character shoes, jazz shoes and tap shoes. Pointe shoes have a short lifespan: dancers prepare and break them in before use, and a performance is usually their final outing before recycling. Dancers can need a new pair of pointe shoes every day or two.

Through our flagship Pointe Shoe Appeal, donations provide The Royal Ballet dancers with the specialist footwear they need throughout the Season. Support will fund pointe shoes, flats, ballet boots, character, jazz and tap shoes, all prepared by our expert footwear team. This will help dancers rehearse and perform safely and confidently, bringing world-class ballet to life for audiences across our stages and online platforms, sustaining the artistry of The Royal Ballet for future generations.
