70% of clients referred to Headroom are neuro-divergent (e.g. Autism, ADHD) with consequent declining mental health, due to emotional overwhelm of attending school/college, and strained relationships at home. Children can’t cope with the multiple, growing demands on them, they burnout, and are unable to complete their education. Parents lack the capacity to understand their growing children’s needs and accommodate them effectively leading to family tensions, disruptive behaviours and breakdown.
Headroom provides free, trauma-informed mental health support to young people aged 11–25 and their parents/carers. Particularly those facing emotional distress, neurodiversity-related challenges, and multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Our whole-family therapeutic model works simultaneously with young people and parents, rebuilding trust, reducing conflict, and restoring stability at home reducing intervention and family breakup.
