The last 3 summers in NI were marked with increased racially-motivated attacks. NISRA reports that racist hate crimes are at the highest level since records began. NI also has the highest per-capita femicide rates in Europe. We are faced with rising individualism, loneliness & deprivation. The BBC reported that adults “spent 4 hours per day on their phone, with 36% of this taking place unintentionally.” We need safe spaces; opportunities of genuine human connection to meet others across divides.

For over 60 years, we have provided glimpses of a better world because we are committed to building relationships where people can simply be themselves with others including those with whom they disagree. In a challenging global landscape, with war, building tensions in communities and fear becoming ever-present, Corrymeela offers hope. Through our respite and practical workshops, we facilitate the work towards peace. One encounter at a time.
