Women we live and work amongst are living in fear, controlled behind closed doors and denied the everyday freedoms many of us take for granted. On average, one in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. Abuse is not only physical violence – it can take many forms including emotional abuse, technological and financial control. Domestic abuse is insidious in nature and can have a long-lasting impact on survivors' physical and emotional wellbeing.

Refuge’s National Domestic Abuse Helpline is a lifeline for women experiencing domestic abuse. A woman could be planning to leave her abusive partner, she could recently have escaped, or might still be living with her abuser – no matter what stage of her journey she is at, our expert team are there to listen and provide free, non-judgmental, confidential support 24/7, 365 days a year. We want every woman who contacts us to feel listened to and to leave the call with a clear path forward.
