Our aim is to develop an accessible sensory garden at St Joseph's Hospice, Liverpool, creating a safe, therapeutic outdoor space with sensory planting, accessible pathways and seating. The garden will boost well-being, and provide a relaxing, peaceful space for patients, families and staff.

Our project addresses the lack of a suitable, accessible outdoor space between our two patient buildings. Following the installation of new patio doors in our patient rooms, landscaping is needed to improve safe access for patients with mobility needs, and create privacy for those using both buildings.

The redesigned space will provide an easily accessible therapeutic garden area which will connect the two buildings. Clever planting will provide privacy for patient rooms without blocking views, and paths will lead patients through plants chosen for their beauty, fragrance, gentle sounds, and tactile qualities.

Main path to San Jose BuildingView towards St Francis House. The new sensory garden will incorporate the existing water fountain.
