The earliest relationships shape a child’s life trajectory, yet many families cannot access vital support to build these foundations. We want to provide flexible, relationship-based interventions that promote secure attachment between babies and their parents/carers.

The first 1001 days in a child’s life are crucial for secure attachment and bonding. Nationally, only 4% of babies and families who need specialist support can access it, with particularly limited provision in disadvantaged and rural areas. Parenthood can be challenging, giving rise to mental health concerns and feelings of isolation. Long waiting times for support can exacerbate this. Insecure attachment can lead to relationship problems, low self-esteem and poor mental health in later life.
We support parents/carers to develop a strong bond with their baby, leading to better early childhood development outcomes and wellbeing. This funding could support parent-infant mental health interventions, including Parent–infant psychotherapy Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) Psychoeducation on infant development and attachment 1:1 sessions in the home Drop in sessions in multiple locations 100% of participants have reported improved mental health and parent-infant relationships
