Around 1 in 7 children are neurodivergent and face significant challenges navigating a world designed for neurotypical individuals. These include sensory overload, social exclusion, bullying, and systemic barriers in education. Traits like challenges with communication, memory, abstract thinking, and alexithymia (difficulty recognising emotions) affect their everyday experiences. These hurdles frequently lead to elevated rates of anxiety, depression, and mental health crises.
ADD-vance has created an online 6-week courses - 'Understanding My ADHD/Autism' which are designed for children and young people who are diagnosed or awaiting diagnosis. Running weekly for an hour with up to 8 participants (grouped by age and diagnosis), each session blends learning, activities and peer discussion. Young people explore how their brains work, build practical well-being strategies, and grow the confidence to understand their own needs and advocate for themselves.
