Energy needs to change. The UK needs an energy system that is 100% renewable and affordable for all. We’re campaigning for new legislation in Parliament to unlock a twenty-fold increase in community-led energy, empowering people to organise their own renewable energy projects.

The UK’s transition to net zero is slow - and at risk of stalling. Renewable energy projects run by local people, for local people make up just 0.5% of the UK’s electricity. If community-run projects grew twenty-fold, they could power millions of homes, create thousands of jobs and save 2.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions per year. There is huge demand to set up local projects, but we’re not seeing the growth we need because of poor funding and outdated regulations.

We need to change the rules about how energy works in the UK. Earlier this year, the Government announced the Local Power Plan: promising up to £1 billion of funding for community energy and changing the rules to make it easier to buy and sell power locally. Our job is to make sure this happens - and soon. We have drafted a new Local Electricity Bill and we’re campaigning to see it made law.
