Up to 1 in 5 women experience mental health problems during pregnancy or the first year after birth. Young mothers are twice as likely to experience depression than adult mothers. Depression is now the most common complication of pregnancy and suicide is the leading direct (pregnancy-related) cause of death occurring during the first year. Untreated perinatal mental health conditions can make it harder for a mother to bond with her baby with long term impacts on a child's development
YoungMums Aid provides specialist support for mothers aged 14-21 giving mothers with perinatal health conditions quick access to essential specialist therapy. Alongside therapy we support mothers with a range of services including; a crisis text service, home visits and support groups providing practical support and advice, parenting and life skills sessions and enrichment and wellbeing activities. This holistic service works with mothers to give them, and their babies the best start.
