Sinfonia Smith Square’s annual Fellowship programme for gifted graduate musicians is a vital element in the UK music scene. Conservatoires focus on individual artistry and musicians emerge with little experience of the skills required to play in an ensemble or of key orchestral repertoire. Securing employment in an orchestra is therefore a challenge. Emerging orchestral musicians need experience of playing in a variety of genres and styles to gain the confidence and versatility demanded of them.

Our annual orchestral development programme (The Fellowship) acts as a springboard into the music profession. Through partnerships with leading ensembles, Fellows learn to become strong orchestral players with an awareness of the physical and mental stamina required of a professional musician. We produce the versatile and confident musicians required by orchestras who not only play brilliantly but possess all the other skills and experience needed to gain employment and thrive in an ensemble.
