We are raising funds to sustain and grow our bursary scheme for another year, to allow more aspiring young musicians from disadvantaged backgrounds to enjoy the personal and social benefits of making music together at Young Music Makers.

The combination of the cost of living crisis, widespread child poverty and severe funding shortfalls in schools and the arts means that learning to play music and perform in public is a life experience that is becoming out of reach for many disadvantaged families. With over a third of Camden's young people living in low-income households we want to ensure that the many benefits we can provide - from musical self-expression and learning to self-confidence and belonging - remain accessible to all.

Our bursary scheme has been in operation for several years and enables over 15 young people each year from disadvantaged backgrounds to experience the transformative benefits of community music-making. Individual lessons develop new skills while group music and performance opportunities develop self-esteem and creative expression. The community feel of the YMM hub on a Saturday, buzzing with over 250 students, fosters a sense of belonging and encourages friendships to develop.
