The Wonderfund was created with a simple aim: to make Bath a city where every child can experience theatre. In The Egg Theatre we want to provide schools, nurseries and colleges free tickets to performances, access to creative learning experiences and bursary places to The Egg’s Theatre School.

Just a quarter of primary-aged children now go to the theatre, as evidenced by the Government’s ‘Taking Part’ surveys. Troubling when teachers extol the cultural, educational and social benefits for pupils in this age of stark social inequity. This is confirmed by research that demonstrates that live theatre, compared to screen work, is especially beneficial for children’s wellbeing, and in the acquisition of new vocabulary and developing empathy and social tolerance.

Since 2021, The Wonderfund has given school children free access to live performance and creative experiences, often for the very first time. By working with teachers, 22,000+ children aged 0-18 have already enjoyed theatre alongside their learning, enriching their extra-curricular experience and bringing much-needed equity to schools in areas of severe pocket-deprivation. The Wonderfund will ensure local children see the best plays and work with superb creative educators.
