The communities and biodiversity of the Xingu Indigenous Territory (Brazil) are severely threatened by wildfires. Wildfires are increasing in frequency and intensity with climate change. Homes and forests have already been lost. Please help us support the volunteer indigenous fire brigade.

The Xingu wildfires are increasing in severity with climate change. Damage to the forest threatens indigenous health and way of life. 3,300 people live in communities in the volunteer firefighters' remit. Uncontrolled wildfires are also devastating to broader Xingu biodiversity. The indigenous territory contains virgin rainforest and is a refuge for threatened species, including giant otters and harpy eagles. The situation is desperate - fires have been fought in shorts and flipflops.

This campaign is to fund the indigenous volunteer firefighter brigade, a collaboration of several Upper Xingu indigenous groups including Kuikuro, Kalapalo & Kamayurá. The brigade controls and eliminates fires in the Upper Xingu, saving communities and their ancestral forests; supporting them is proactive prevention of indigenous poverty and habitat destruction.
