Justice involved women are often mothers, survivors of domestic abuse, experience poor mental health, or substance use. Around 17000 children are separated from their mothers each year by imprisonment, causing lasting trauma. 64% of women reported a history of brain injury caused by domestic abuse in a study at HMP Drake Hall (Brainkind, 2018). This is a complex group - yet support is often fragmented, and the system too often breaks families apart rather than helping them heal.

Hope Street is the UK’s only residential alternative to custody where women can live with their children while receiving intensive, trauma-informed support. With self-contained flats, specialist staff, and lived-experience team members, we provide safe, women-only spaces and a whole-family approach. Through therapeutic care, skills development, and community opportunities, Hope Street offers a blueprint for keeping families together and rebuilding lives.
