To help young professional singers develop their musical and dramatic understanding in a supportive and collaborative environment, promoting their early careers. We want to offer them inspiring work and reward them with proper pay whilst continuing to build new audiences for opera.

The economic and political climate continues to cause problems for the art of opera: the superb British music conservatoires train singers and musicians to amazing standards but young careers are very fragile. When we were founded (1993) we were a pioneer in providing valuable training experiences for outstanding young musicians and, whilst we now have many imitators, our work is vital and widely appreciated. Our praised commitment to staging rare late 18th-century opera is unique in the UK.

We'll present 4 to 6 opera performances of at least one rare work, providing an inspiring entertainment for our audiences and vital experience for young performers. Relatively low ticket prices (well below many comparable companies) and a relaxed non-dressy atmosphere appeal to our audiences, who are often newcomers to opera. We'll also present our 8th biennial Young Singers' Competition, showcasing and rewarding the country's best singers and pianists aged 21-32.
