In rural Laos, many women, and their families, are trapped in poverty. Without secure rights to the land they farm, they find it hard to grow enough food or earn a steady income. Cultural beliefs about gender roles mean women are often left out of important decisions in their households and communities. On average they earn 25% less than men and have fewer opportunities to build better lives for themselves.
ALLOWED (Access to Land: Lao Women’s Economic Development) will address gender inequalities that limit the opportunities of women in rural Laos by: -Supporting women to work together to have a stronger voice and more influence -Securing women’s access to land -Helping women to earn a stable income As women achieve secure access to land, a stronger voice, and more influence, ALLOWED will equip them with the skills and opportunities needed to turn that security into sustainable sources of income.
