Women and girls in rural Southwest Uganda cannot choose if and when to have children because healthcare staff lack access to family planning skills training. Our training helps hospitals bring life-changing information, counselling and contraception closer to the women and girls who need it.

Too many women and girls in rural Uganda are denied the opportunity to decide for themselves if and when to have children. Distance to healthcare, transport costs, and a shortage of trained providers prevent them from accessing quality family planning services. Unintended or closely spaced pregnancies increase risks to the lives of women, girls, and their babies. They make it harder for women and girls to stay in education and work, and to build secure futures for themselves and their families.
We support hospitals to deliver "USHAPE", our hospital-based family planning training and service improvement programme developed with Ugandan clinicians. It improves healthcare services by strengthening staff skills, knowledge, and confidence. We also work with hospitals, local partners, and communities to strengthen outreach, so women and girls who live in remote rural areas can access trusted information, confidential counselling, and high-quality family planning services closer to home.
