There is a real and growing appetite in the UK for authoritative, independent engagement with Ukraine, but no single institution dedicated to meeting it. Credible, nuanced information about Ukraine's culture and history is urgently needed to counter anti-democratic narratives, especially as global attention shifts elsewhere. With the UK and Ukraine bound by a 100-year partnership agreement, that understanding has never mattered more. UIL exists to provide it.

We bring people into direct contact with Ukraine's culture, history and ideas: through public lectures, expert briefings, film festivals, language courses, literary and cultural events, and educational programmes. All are independent of any government or embassy, which is what makes us trusted. Over ten years, tens of thousands have left our events thinking differently about Ukraine: not as a geopolitical flashpoint, but as a country with a culture and history that offer global lessons.
