Clubfoot is one of the most common birth defects. If untreated, it results in lifelong disability: pain and progressive difficulty in walking, reduced participation in education, employment, along with stigma and exclusion. Due to lack of awareness, availability of treatment services, and inability to access care,70-80% of children born with clubfoot in low income countries (LMIC) grow up with severe disability that could be prevented with timely, low-cost treatment provided soon after birth.
We will equip emerging clinical leaders and treatment providers in high burden countries with clinical skills and knowledge, leadership, research and quality improvement skills. Sustainability will be improved by training local trainers, leaders and champions to advocate for, and scale up, services in their countries. This will increase availability of, and access to, timely, high quality clubfoot treatment that enables children with clubfoot to walk, thrive and run free now and in the future.
