Primary bone cancer is a relatively rare disease; on average 650 people are diagnosed per year in the UK. Late diagnosis is common; lack of awareness amongst GPs and other healthcare professionals gives the disease more time to progress, making it more difficult to treat. It is a disease which disproportionately affects children and young adults, accounting for 4% of all childhood cancers. The effects of treatment are lifelong and negatively impact quality of life.

We are delivering an ambitious £10m research programme. We are focussed on improving survival rates and the quality of life for those who survive. With the help of our community, we have made exceptional progress in recent years, and we are now seizing the opportunity to go further. We are investing in the next generation by funding early career researchers as well as continuing to collaborate with leading specialists. Research is vital if we are to turn the tide on this devastating disease.
