In the Mayuge District, many teenage girls become pregnant through rape or due to limited reproductive health education. Stigmatised, excluded from school, and trapped in extreme poverty, adolescent mothers and their children face profound hardship. With little family support, they experience low self‑esteem, unemployment, and heightened vulnerability to sexual exploitation, HIV/AIDS, and poor mental health.

These young mothers are supported in small peer groups where they receive mental‑wellbeing support, build essential life skills, and learn about their health and gender rights. Act4Africa provides vocational training and seed funding, enabling them to develop sustainable livelihoods and achieve financial independence. When young women have a stable income, they are far more likely to keep their children in education, breaking the cycle of poverty for the next generation.
