Over the last ten years more than 1250 people have been killed on the roads in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. The emotional and practical needs of road victims and witnesses are similar to that of murder or manslaughter. If unsupported, people affected can suffer long-term problems including, ill-health, anxiety, depression, and other persistent mental health problems. The early intervention of emotional and practical support following a collision gives real hope to families.
The project addresses the lack of statutory support for road victims nationally. By providing free counselling through qualified clinical staff and specialist trained counselling volunteers, people affected by road collisions and those experiencing bereavement are supported by a team that know their needs. The early intervention of RVT specialist services allows people to begin to adjust and cope with life post collision, improving their overall well being while allowing them a safe space to be.
