In rural Northumberland, limited or non-existent public transport and long journeys make it difficult for many people to attend healthcare appointments. Family and friends often want to help but must balance caring responsibilities, work and their own wellbeing. Demand for our volunteer-led Patient Transport Service is rising sharply. Without support, patients risk missed appointments, delayed treatment and worsening health. Our service provides transport, reassurance and a friendly face.
Tynedale Hospice at Home will expand our free, volunteer-led Patient Transport Service by recruiting and training more drivers, covering mileage and coordination costs, and raising awareness so more people can access support. Our volunteers provide reliable door-to-door transport to appointments, treatment and hospice services, offering reassurance, dignity and a trusted neighbourly presence, while reducing pressure on families and carers.
