DMD is a progressive, life-limiting condition affecting around 1 in 3,500 boys. While physical care pathways have improved, mental health support remains inconsistent and often inaccessible. Families face anxiety, grief, uncertainty, social isolation and increasing caring responsibilities. Parents struggle with the emotional impact of a life-limiting diagnosis, siblings can feel overlooked, and young people with Duchenne face complex challenges around identity, independence, and the future.

Project Chrysalis provides grants for up to nine sessions of expert clinical psychology support for individuals and families affected by DMD. Delivered by clinicians with specialist neuromuscular expertise, support is available to children, young people, parents, carers and siblings. Families can self-refer or be referred by healthcare professionals. The programme provides timely, tailored support that helps families develop coping strategies, improve communication and build resilience.
