Farmland species like turtle doves - woven into our Christmas traditions - are disappearing. Yet with 70% of the UK made up of farmland, nature-friendly farming offers hope for nature’s recovery. At Wittenham Clumps we'll create thriving habitats that bring struggling species back where they belong

Wildlife is in trouble. One in six UK species faces extinction, with farmland birds among the hardest hit. Grey partridge, turtle doves and skylark, once common in our fields are vanishing as modern farming has reduced the food and shelter they rely on. With 70% of the UK made up of farmland, nature will only recover at scale if it can thrive in productive farmed landscapes. What happens on this land will decide whether these species are lost - or can recover for future generations.
At Wittenham Clumps, we’ll show how farming can work with nature to bring wildlife back for good. By restoring hedgerows, improving soils and creating food rich habitats, we can make space for struggling species to return, creating the conditions wildlife needs not just to survive the winter, but to flourish year-round. Beyond our boundaries, we aim to lead by example, providing an open landscape which inspires farmers to adopt nature-friendly practices and help wildlife thrive everywhere.
