For refugees, home can feel like a distant memory. Arriving in a new country comes with complex challenges made more frightening by the increased risk of homelessness. We offer housing, but also a place where people feel welcomed and supported. Because everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

Refugees and asylum seekers are increasingly being pushed into homelessness. Recent BBC analysis found a five-fold rise since 2021/22. In Newcastle and Gateshead, over 8% of households at risk of homelessness are refugees. The main drivers are the abrupt end of asylum support and a severe shortage of affordable housing, leaving many who have fled war and persecution without a safe, secure home just as they begin rebuilding their lives.
Our services are a lifeline to newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees facing homelessness. Our drop-ins are often a first stop, offering a warm welcome and practical advice. Alongside this, we provide accommodation for destitute migrants and help refugees into stable housing. We also deliver English, employability and digital skill classes, alongside dedicated youth work for children and families, helping people rebuild their lives and feel part of a safe, supportive community.
