Beneficiaries
For many disabled veterans, discharge brings an unexpected end to service life. Unlike colleagues who are able to plan for retirement, medically discharged veterans often have limited time to prepare for civilian employment while also managing physical injuries and/or mental ill health. Many face other barriers as they lack recognise qualifications or require flexible learning opportunities that traditional higher education cannot provide
The Fund provides fully funded Open University scholarships, specialist disability support, assistive technology where required, and tailored careers guidance for up to three years post-study. Through the OU’s flexible distance-learning model, veterans can study around health conditions, caring responsibilities and employment commitments while gaining recognised qualifications and preparing for sustainable civilian careers.
