We are raising funds which will allow 24 children from Mangochi in Malawi to attend school this year. These funds will allow 14 students to go to primary school and 10 to attend secondary school. FOMOE was set up with the exclusive purpose of supporting children to attend MOET school for Orphans.

Mangochi, Malawi, is home to 1.15 million people, yet faces a severe education crisis. Youth literacy rates fall below the national average of 73%. Just 19% of children aged 7–14 can read, and only 13% have basic numeracy skills. While 91% of primary-age children enrol in school, completion rates tell a starker story: just 27% complete schooling in rural areas, and it is as low as 11% in the poorest households. Secondary school enrolment is just 17%, mainly due to the costs involved.

Founded in 1999, MOET School has grown from 10 orphans under a grass shelter to 449 primary pupils, 37 in secondary school, and 11 at university. Class sizes average 49 — well below the national ratio of 1:62. MOET's education programme supports students from primary onto tertiary education. Inspired by this school, FOMOE was set up in 2010 to support MOET's aims, we support the core areas of work, ensuring families without the means to pay can send their children or grandchildren to school.
