For 20 years, Together Women has provided trauma-informed, gender-responsive support to women across the North of England through a series of Women’s Centres with specialist teams. Counselling has always been an integral part of women’s healing and recovery, but it is often the least accessible.

Most of the women we work with are experiencing complex trauma, from sexual and domestic abuse to homelessness and addiction. Over 80% of criminal justice involved women have endured abuse. These experiences often lead to complex trauma and poor mental health. Due to the severity of trauma, many women require specialist counselling, provisions we cannot provide when relying on trainee and volunteer counsellors. When women cannot access the support they need, unsafe cycles become inevitable.

Together Women will provide specialist EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), a type of psychotherapy designed to help the brain reprocess trauma, which is rapidly becoming one of Together Women's biggest priority needs as we see a rise in Complex PTSD and other mental health challenges. Delivered alongside our person-centred support, these specialist sessions will be fundamental to healing and recovery for women whose lives have been dominated by abuse and adversity.
