No child should miss school because they lack a safe toilet. Across rural Tamil Nadu, poor sanitation and inadequate menstrual hygiene facilities keep children, particularly girls, out of school. We provide sustainable WASH infrastructure and hygiene education that transforms health and learning.

Beneficiaries
Many government schools in rural Tamil Nadu lack safe, functional toilets, handwashing facilities and reliable access to water. Poor sanitation creates health risks, affects learning, and can lead to absenteeism. Girls are disproportionately impacted, particularly during menstruation, when a lack of privacy, facilities and menstrual waste disposal can result in missed lessons or dropping out altogether. Children cannot reach their full potential when their basic hygiene needs are unmet.
Alongside our sister organisation, Sanitation First, we deliver sustainable sanitation solutions in rural Tamil Nadu schools by installing gender-segregated toilets, handwashing stations, reliable water access and safe menstrual waste disposal systems. Infrastructure is combined with hygiene education and our Happy Periods programme, ensuring students and teachers understand hygiene, health and facility maintenance. This integrated approach creates lasting change and long-term use of facilities.
