Pact is a pioneering charity supporting people & families affected by imprisonment. We provide life-changing services through the justice process: in court, in prison, on release, and in the community. We work for the common good of society & believe in the innate dignity and worth of every person.

Our prisons are in crisis. There are record numbers of people behind bars. Inspectors regularly report instances of vermin, violence, self-harm and people languishing in cells with nothing to do. Too many people are released with no home, no job, no family, and no hope. Annually, over 80,000 families & 200,000 children and young people are affected by imprisonment. The impact can be lifelong & is classed as an “adverse childhood experience”.
Pact supports prisoners, people with convictions, and their families at every stage of the criminal justice process. We work directly with prisoners and their families in over 70 prisons across England and Wales to improve their lives and their family ties, which in turn reduces reoffending. Our work reduces the harm that imprisonment can cause, relieves poverty and sickness, and improves the future prospects for prisoners, prison leavers and their families and children.
