Hinksey Sculling School offers young people in our community an opportunity to row, irrespective of the family's abilty to pay fees. This year's campaign raises funds to 1. provide for our equipment needs, 2. support our bursary fund and 3. develop our outreach and in house rowing programme.

The challenging funding situation in state schools has reduced opportunities for today's youth to try sports in schools. This has been further exacerbated by the cost of living crisis and it is children from lower socio-economic backgrounds who are disproportionately affected. We believe that the lack of opportunity for formal involvement in sport contributes to the loss of self-esteem and impacts children's aspirations and outlook on life, as well as their physical and mental wellbeing.
Rowing is often described as "The Ultimate Team Sport" A parent quotes 'The kids my daughter started with all felt so nurtured and encouraged at every stage, and this is so critical to building confidence through sport". Participation in rowing at HSS develops commitment, physical and mental strength, teamwork skills, and builds strong friendship networks. We believe rowing can be a tremendous force for good in a young person's life, through its unique benefits and life-transformative impact.
