We are raising funds for a refuge for child rape survivors in south Nepal that we set up in 2020 in partnership with our sister registered charity, Our Sansar. The refuge provides a place of safety and rehabilitation prior to reintegrating survivors with families and communities, if safe to do so.

Gender-based violence against women and girls is a frequent occurrence in south Nepal. This includes sexual assaults and rape. After such attacks, victims are stigmatised and may not be accepted by their communities and families, even accused of bearing some responsibility themselves for these assaults. The police and community leaders may conspire to cover up the crimes to prevent 'shame' on the girl and her family. Needless to write, there is therefore a legacy of trauma and a lack of justice.
We operate a 20-bed safe house where victims receive immediate protection and medical care as required. Beyond that, the staff and counsellors provide rehabilitation with a view to reintegrating the survivors with families and communities. We also pursue justice on their behalf through registering cases against perpetrators. Field staff visit villages and raise awareness about the issue - so, our refuge lies at the hub of a much bigger programme as we advocate for girls' rights.
