In 2023, Play On launched after Arts Council England withdrew our National Portfolio funding. Now, your support will see us Playing on, Further and Louder, with new commissions and premieres, our flagship schools programme in Thetford, and in the classroom, weaving music into everyday teaching.

Across the East of England, access to exceptional live music is deeply uneven. • In schools: Teachers lack the confidence, training or resources to embed music into everyday learning — bolted on rather than built in. • In Thetford: Opportunity is limited and isolation high, with too few welcoming spaces where adults and young people can come together. • In commissioning: Few organisations champion new music, so audiences rarely hear the work of living composers on their doorstep.

In schools: A six-month programme built on a new Raph Clarkson piece, co-created with Peterborough and Fenland communities — flexible parts for whole class instruments, adaptive instruments like the clarion — equipping teachers to embed music in everyday learning. In Thetford: Young people will co-create and tour a schools concert in Breckland, alongside Music Café bringing generations together. In commissioning: New works by Brett Dean and Charlotte Bray, premiered across the East of England.
