It is estimated that 70% of hazel dormouse have been lost from the UK since 2020. That's the same as everyone 0 - 60 in the UK! Yet the dormouse has a stronghold in Suffolk and can still recover with our help. Stag beetles also have nationally significant populations in Suffolk, but continuous action is needed to ensure the woody habitats that they need to survive. Bird populations such as skylark, nightingale, swift and lapwing have seen devastating losses and need our help.
But it's not too late to turn things around and nature can recover and come back in abundance. At Suffolk Wildlife Trust, we work with farmers and landowners to protect and restore habitats, supporting wildlife-friendly practices. We are working hard to maintain our nature reserves protecting heathland, saltmarsh, and grassland habitats which have become vital havens for wildlife. And our nature action teams are working with our communities to transform their spaces.for wildlife.
