ReachOut is a mentoring charity, rooted in local communities. We run after-school programmes where we build the socio-emotional skills that transform outcomes for 9-14 year olds. We define these skills as empathy, responsibility, problem solving, initiative, teamwork and emotion management.

It's easy to assume that skills like motivation, resilience, or communication are either innate or universally accessible - but that's not the case. Poverty, instability, and exclusion can create invisible barriers for children and young people; fear of failure, internalised low expectations, lack of role models, and environments that don’t nurture confidence or resilience can restrict a young person's development.
We deliver after-school mentoring projects across London and Manchester, supporting young people to build the skills and confidence they need to thrive in school and beyond. Our youth practitioners and volunteer mentors support young people to develop in six key areas: responsibility, empathy, problem solving, teamwork, initiative, and emotion management. They develop their skills through group activities, reflection and goal setting, as well as work experience visits and career talks.
